Farmers’ Market – Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital
Midwest Foods was present at the Lurie Chidren’s Hospital to promote and to manifest its support to the cause of healthy eating. We believe that learning how to, and starting to eat healthy should not be focused on adulthood, but children need to be educated in the proper direction. Children need to understand we are what we eat, and the sooner this conception is revealed to them, the better they are able to incorporate it as a lifestyle.
For this Farmers’ Market, Midwest Food set up the classic produce booth, where we exhibited both conventional and organic produce. What we take pride in, even though the season for local has not properly started, is to be able to provide as much local produce as possible.
At this particular event, our local variety also comprised Roterno Tomatoes from our new local partner farm in Rochelle, Illinois, Mighty Vine. Hydroponic farm Mighty Vine, operates on a 7.5 acres glasshouse, aiming to produce 4.5 million pounds of tomatoes annually. Root for your local tomato, using next generation farming techniques, this indoor tomato farming operation, produces the freshest, most sustainable tomatoes all year long. Mighty Vine tomatoes reach excellency in taste because they are ripened fully on the vine, picked for flavor today and on your plate tomorrow.
However, in addition to our traditional display, in order to make healthy eating even more appealing, this time we also supplied a specialty produce booth. Children were able to see, taste and enjoy some of the most exquisite produce, such as dragon fruits, rambutans, cara-cara oranges, muscat grapes, and watermelon radishes.
We love to bring smiles on children faces and our devoted team tried to share as much of their experience and expertise in the area of conscious food choices as possible.
We also exhibited the Fresh Bites, a single-portion snack that is easy to incorporate into school, or hospital menus. Today’s communities place high importance on healthy eating and nutritional education for children. From local farm foods added to school menus. and governmental programs aimed at teaching healthy habits to kids and their families, our Fresh Bites are the right choice for children. Benefit from this convenient, natural source of energy, all natural, no preservatives, packed with vitamins, no cholesterol, no fat, washed and ready to eat.
